Congratulations to Randy Fiser on his new position as CEO and executive director of the American Geophysical Union. According to its website, AGU’s mission is “To support and inspire a global community of individuals and organizations interested in advancing discovery in Earth and space sciences and its benefit for humanity and the environment. As we look to the decade ahead, our mission is focused on supporting individuals in their scientific endeavors and on convening groups interested in working together on discovery and solution-based science. We are also dedicated to educating and inspiring the next generation of scientists needed to advance this mission.”
AGU President Robin Bell and AGU President-elect and Council President Susan Lozier said in a statement, “We are excited to announce Randy Fiser will be AGU’s CEO and executive director, effective Aug. 17, 2020. Randy was the clear choice for this position because he is passionate about AGU’s mission and vision, has a demonstrated ability to creatively lead organizations and shares AGU’s commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion. Randy is a skilled executive with strong collaborative and administrative skills, has a proven track record of working with membership organizations to advance their mission and has worked throughout his career to advance sustainability practices and goals.”
Upon accepting the position Fiser said, “I am excited to join AGU and the Earth and space sciences community to help elevate the knowledge and create actionable solutions. Together with this community, we will integrate Earth and space sciences into everything everyone does so that we are better stewards of our environment for future generations around the world.”
Randy is an accomplished non-profit and business executive most recently with the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) where he was the CEO and president. He has also worked for Achieve where he was vice president for Management, Finance and Operations; Burson-Marsteller, where he was a director, Corporate Practice with clients such as Coca-Cola, Thomson Reuters, McGraw-Hill and Freddie Mac. Before that he worked for the Fannie Mae Foundation as director of strategic planning and management and as a senior associate with | Booz Allen Hamilton.
Fiser has his bachelor’s in business administration from Northern Arizona University; his master’s in student personnel in higher education from the University of Georgia; and his MBA in international business from Georgetown University.
